Speed Swimming: Group Structure PDF Print E-mail

 

This year Speed Swimming will be using a three group structure. Athletes are placed in training groups by the coaching staff based on age, experienced and skill level; and are expected to attend swimming practices for their assigned group only. Below are rough guidelines that can be used to describe each group's make up and it's overall objectives.

 

Group 1

  • Includes mostly new swimmers (Division 1 - 3) and returning Division 2 – 3 athletes with less competitive swimming experience and all 6 & Under swimmers
  • Objectives:
    • Inspire a love of aquatics sports and the club atmosphere
    • Solidify base skills of competitive swimming
    • Make comfortable with idea of competition
    • Introduce demands of competition

 

Group 2

  • Includes more experienced Division 2 – 3 athletes, with some Division 1 swimmers
  • Objectives:
    • Promote physical activity
    • Build strong technical skills of all competitive strokes
    • Thrive in demands of competition 

Group 3

  • Made up of most Division 4 and up swimmers.
  • Objectives
    • Promote physical activity
    • Refine skills of competitive swimming
    • Expand aerobic and anaerobic capacity across all strokes
    • Provide an environment that will ensure maximum performance at Regionals and Provincials
