Speed Swimming: Relays PDF Print E-mail

Being part of a relay team can be described as one of the most fun parts of a swim meet - this is a time where athletes get to compete with their fellow teammates!

Relays usually happen at the end of the swim meets – please keep this in mind when signing up for relay teams, it means you will most likely be at the meet until the end of the day. When signing up for relays you are stating that your child is interested in swimming a relay – the coaches can not guarantee that all athletes will be placed on a relay team, or that they will be swimming on a relay in their division. Also keep in mind that if you sign up for relays and then do not stay, or back out on the day of the swim meet your meet fee account will be charged for the entire cost of the relay.

During the season the coaches will enter as many relay teams as possible and will do their best to make sure everyone who has signed up for relays is given a chance to be part of a relay team. From the beginning of the season to mid-July emphasis will be first on participation, and secondly on competition. Two meets prior to Regionals, relay teams will be chosen by the coaches in an effort to select the most competitive teams possible.

At Regionals, relay team selection will be based on the following criteria (ordered in priority):

   1. Qualifying the most competitive relay teams possible for Provincials
   2. Qualifying the most number of swimmers possible for Provincials
   3. Providing a relay opportunity for as many swimmers as possible at Regionals.

Relays at Provincials will be made using the fastest combination of swimmers available for the meet.
