Speed swimming meets are fun, social, and exciting. Most speed swimmers enjoy the meets and look forward to competing regularly throughout the season. Swim meets are scheduled weekly through June and July, with most meets being held on weekends. Meets are one or two days, and you may choose to sign up for one or both days of a meet. Meets are held in pools on the North Shore, in Vancouver, or elsewhere around the Lower Mainland. Once or twice per summer the team takes a road trip to attend a meet in the Okanagan or on Vancouver Island. These "away meets" are great team experiences and truly help develop an sense of team spirit and camaraderie. For most swimmers, the emphasis and goal for each meet is to continually improve and to achieve "best times" in each of their events. This focus on individual achievement helps athletes achieve their personal goals and have ongoing success. The Regional and Provincial championships are held in August, and are the pinnacle of our swimmers season. Throughout the season the coaches are working to train the swimmers so that they have their best performances at these events. All swimmers are eligible and encouraged to participate in the Regional championships. This is an exciting meet and for many swimmers it marks the end of the summer swim season. This meet is also where swimmers may qualify for the Provincial championships later in August. In addition to the regular weekend meets, we offer "development meets". These are for newer swimmers who are still learning the strokes. These meets are typically held mid-week after work. They are much shorter in duration and provide feedback to swimmers regarding stroke irregularities that they should work on in practice (ie: instead of being disqualified for an illegal stroke, swimmers are informed of the infraction so that they can correct it).
